Mysore Khus — Vetiver Attar
Mysore Khus carries one of India's oldest cooling traditions — khus root, long used to scent water pots and window screens through the hottest months — into a genuine attar built for exactly that same purpose. This vetiver attar is oil-based and alcohol-free, hand-blended in India with the same devotion behind every bottle we make, carrying the old idea from the Rig Veda's Sri Sukta that fragrance is gandhadvara — a doorway through which relief enters a home — an instinct that shaped Kannauj's perfumers across five thousand years of Indian summers.
The Notes
The composition is built around green, cooling vetiver — that unmistakably earthy, just-rained-on-soil smell that has scented Indian homes for generations. As an oil attar, it sits close to the skin and unfolds slowly, staying crisp and mineral through its entire wear rather than turning warm or resinous the way alcohol-based fragrances eventually do. This is vetiver in its most traditional, functional form.
Mood and Character
The character is cooling and genuinely functional — an attar chosen as much for what it does as for how it smells. It is fully unisex and particularly suited to the hottest months of the Indian year, worn daily, for pooja, or simply for the relief a good khus attar provides against the summer heat.
When and How to Wear It
Dab, don't rub, at the wrists, behind the ears, and at the throat. Attar blooms with body warmth rather than needing reapplication, so a small amount genuinely goes a long way. Because it sits close to the skin, a light reapplication at midday during peak summer is entirely reasonable if you want the coolness renewed.
Is it alcohol-free? Yes, a true khus attar suited to daily wear and prayer alike. Best season to wear it? Summer, though it works comfortably year-round for anyone who simply loves the classic khus character. Every bottle is hand-blended in India, oil-based and honest about its cooling purpose. If fragrance really is a doorway, as the old texts describe, Mysore Khus opens onto shade on the hottest day of the year — a strong contender for the best attar for men and women alike who want genuine relief rather than just a pleasant smell. Good for gifting ahead of the summer season? An excellent, thoughtful gift for anyone who dreads the hottest months and would appreciate a natural, functional cooling ritual. Does it stain clothing? No — a small dab absorbs cleanly into skin without leaving any mark on fabric. Store it away from direct heat and sunlight, and keep it within easy reach through the summer months, when its cooling character genuinely earns its place in a daily routine. Layer it under a lighter citrus eau de parfum for an even fresher effect on the hottest days, or wear it entirely alone for a clean, grounded signature that never feels heavy no matter how high the temperature climbs. Many customers keep a bottle specifically for the peak summer months, retiring it once the weather cools and returning to it faithfully the following year.

The Vessel Is You
attardaan
अत्तरदान
noun — the vessel that holds the attar
An attardaan is a real object. Long before it was our name, it was the small ornate box a household kept its perfume in — brought out for weddings, for guests, for the days worth marking. The word says exactly what it is: attar, the fragrance; daan, the holder.
We call the people who wear our scents Attardaans because the name has quietly changed hands. A bottle keeps a fragrance for a while. You give it warmth, a pulse, and somewhere to go. Worn, a scent stops being something you own and becomes something you carry.
In the Rig Veda's Śrī Sūkta, Lakshmi Ji is invoked as Gandhadvārām — she who is approached through fragrance.
The Śrī Sūkta · Rig Vedagandha, fragrance · dvāra, doorway
Which is why, to us, our Attardaans are the most beautiful people we know.

Our Customers Ask
Our fragrances are hand-blended in the traditional attar style using concentrated oils, so they sit close to the skin and unfold gradually over several hours. Wear time varies with skin type, climate and how much you apply — for the best results, apply to pulse points (wrists, neck, behind the ears) on slightly moisturised skin right after a shower.
An attar is a traditional Indian fragrance oil, made the old way and typically alcohol-free, so it's applied directly to the skin and blooms slowly. A perfume (eau de parfum) usually uses an alcohol base, which makes the scent lift faster but fade sooner. At Attardaan, we work in the Kannauj attar tradition — hand-blended, concentrated, and made to last.
Most of our fragrances are crafted in the traditional attar style and are alcohol-free. Composition can vary across our range, so please check the individual product's description for the exact details of the fragrance you're looking at, or message us on WhatsApp and we'll confirm before you buy.
Our fragrances are hand-blended using quality ingredients and are generally gentle on the skin. That said, everyone's skin reacts differently to fragrance oils. If you have sensitive skin or a known fragrance allergy, we recommend a small patch test on your inner wrist before applying it more widely.
It depends on how you like to wear your fragrance. A 10ml is perfect for trying a scent, travel, or keeping in your bag for touch-ups. A 100ml is a comfortable everyday bottle for regular use. A 200ml suits someone who's found their signature scent and wants it to last without reordering often. Not sure yet? Start smaller and size up once you know it's the one.
