The Scent

Khus Mahal is built around khus — vetiver's Indian name and identity, the earthy, cooling root that has scented Indian summers for generations, from khus curtains hung over doorways to khus sharbat served on the hottest afternoons. Here it's paired with a warm, smoky oud, so the cooling green rootiness of vetiver gets grounded by something darker and richer. The result is a room freshener spray that feels both ancient and current — earthy enough to feel authentically Indian, layered enough to feel deliberate rather than raw.

Fragrance as the Doorway

Mahal means palace, and the name is a small nod to how seriously vetiver and oud have been treated in Indian fragrance history — not background scents, but materials worthy of a court. Attardaan is named for the attardaan, the sealed casket that once held a king's own attars, and Khus Mahal, hand-blended in India, is one of our most direct links to that heritage: khus and oud have been distilled and blended by hand in Kannauj, India's 5,000-year-old perfume city, for as long as attar has existed as a craft. The Rig Veda's Śrī Sūkta names Lakshmi Ji as Gandhadvārām, "she whose gateway is fragrance" — the old idea that a scent this rooted in the land can genuinely be how prosperity enters a home.

Where to Use It

Khus Mahal is at its best in the peak of Indian summer, when a cooling, earthy room freshener spray does real work against the heat — spray it in living rooms, verandahs and anywhere ceiling fans are working overtime. It also suits shaded, quieter corners of a home where you want depth rather than brightness — a study, a reading corner, a formal sitting room.
