This is a darker, smokier oud than the rose-softened Gulaab Oudh or the vetiver-grounded Khus Mahal; here, oud is the entire statement, warm and slightly sweet with a resinous depth that lingers long after lighter notes would have faded. An attardaan is a real object. Long before it was our name, it was the small ornate box a household kept its perfume in — brought out for weddings, for guests, for the days worth marking. The word says exactly what it is: attar, the fragrance; daan, the holder.
